What are the best fabrics to put Iron-On Patches On?

Iron-on patches adhere best to tightly woven natural fabrics. These can handle high heat and allow the fabric to bond effectively.

The fabrics that work the best are:

• Denim
• Cotton
• Twill
• Canvas

Prepping The Fabric?

Before you use an iron-on patch, prepare the fabric correctly to ensure a strong hold. Pre-wash your garment without fabric softener to eliminate chemicals and allow for any fabric shrinking.

Dry thoroughly and lay the clothing on a flat surface. Smooth out all wrinkles and gently go over the area intended for application with your iron.

How to use your Iron correctly for Iron-On Patches?

Your iron’s heat settings play a crucial role in the application process. If you are working with fabrics like denim or canvas, we recommend that you use the “cotton” setting.

• Make sure the steam function is turned off as it can cause adhesive failure and your patch will not bond properly.
• Place a pressing cloth (or cooking parchment paper) over the patch and press firmly.
• Don’t move the iron across the surface. Center the iron over the patch and evenly apply pressure for at least 30 seconds.
• DO NOT move your garment until the patch cools, about 2 minutes. Full permanent adhesion takes 24 hours.
